Businesses that use Ridge POS show card prices and give a discount for cash. This page explains what you will see at the register and what it means for you.
What you will see
- The price shown is the card price. The price on the menu, shelf, screen or online ordering page is what you pay with a credit card, debit card, prepaid card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. It is the same price for every card.
- Paying cash costs less. If you pay with cash, the business takes a cash discount off the posted price. The discount is about 3.4% and is shown as a separate line on your receipt. The business may also post the cash price next to the card price.
- No extra charge at checkout. Nothing is added to the posted price when you pay by card. There is no card fee, surcharge or minimum purchase for using a card.
- Tips are not affected. A tip you add is never increased or discounted.
- Tax is charged on what you pay. Sales tax is calculated on the card price if you pay by card, or on the discounted price if you pay cash.
Why businesses do this
Accepting cards costs money. Instead of paying processing fees, businesses on Ridge POS set a card price that covers the cost of card acceptance, and pass the savings to customers who pay cash. The business receives the same amount either way.
Your receipt
Every receipt shows the posted price, any cash discount, tax and the total. If you paid by card, you will see the card price. If you paid cash, you will see the discount line. Keep the receipt if you need to return an item or question a charge.
Questions or concerns
The business you bought from is the seller and is responsible for its prices, products, refunds and receipts; please contact it first. If you believe a business using Ridge POS has charged more than its posted card price, added a fee for using a card, or did not show both prices as required, tell us at cardpricing@ridgeapp.app with the business name, date and a copy of the receipt, and we will look into it.
